Pregnancy Prenatal Check Up
At our Midwife Clinic in Berlin, we specialize in supporting women through their entire pregnancy journey, starting with a comprehensive prenatal check-up and care. This includes medical check-ups, diagnostics, and personalized recommendations to help manage a healthy lifestyle, preventing potential health issues throughout pregnancy. At Praxis Lemm, we offer a range of prenatal check-ups and diagnostic procedures tailored to the needs of expectant mothers.
First Consultation: Medical History and Examination
The importance of the first consultation cannot be overstated, as it is crucial to listen carefully as a therapist, especially to pregnant women who are often deeply intuitive. Expectant mothers have an innate awareness of what’s happening within their bodies, often understanding their condition better than anyone else. Pregnant women experience their bodies with all their senses, and by tuning into their insights, we can better understand the root cause of any concerns. While we bring knowledge and experience, their intuition is an invaluable guide in the healing process.
TCM and Tongue Diagnostics
Tongue diagnostics is a key method in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and plays a vital role during pregnancy. It helps identify blockages in the liver, digestive system, heart, and other organs and meridians according to TCM principles. These blockages are then addressed through acupuncture, promoting balance and supporting overall health during pregnancy.
Pregnancy check up
According to maternity regulations, you can choose to have your pregnancy check-ups with either your gynecologist or midwife. At our midwife practice, the check-up includes heart sound analysis of the baby, blood pressure measurement, weight monitoring, personalized urine tests, blood tests, and a vaginal examination to ensure comprehensive care throughout your pregnancy.
Extended Blood Results
Blood testing is a crucial diagnostic tool during birth preparation, ensuring that both you and your baby are receiving the right nutrients. In addition to standard blood tests, we also assess important markers such as vitamin D levels, B12, protein, and other key nutrients. This comprehensive approach helps us identify any deficiencies early, allowing us to tailor a plan to support your health and your baby’s development throughout pregnancy.
Urine and Hormonal Health Support
Having successfully navigated premenopausal disorder without supplementary hormones, I now guide other women on how to manage symptoms and support them through this phase naturally. If symptoms are severe, however, I do encourage women to consider stronger medications when necessary. After the premenopausal phase or medication use, I help women nourish and harmonize their bodies through vitamin therapies and lifestyle changes, which can enable them to gradually stop hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
I support the use of natural remedies alongside traditional medicine and always encourage my patients to reduce medication over time. While I do not prescribe hormones, I assist women in alleviating side effects and symptoms related to hormone treatments.
Vaginal Microbiome and Flora
Vitacell Scan
Vita Cell Scan uses spectral photometry to measure minerals and heavy metals in your tissue in your hand. It provides valuable insights into deficiencies and toxicities at the cellular level, where diseases often begin, empowering us to treat root causes and support your health journey effectively.
Why It’s Important
- Mineral Levels: Identifies nutrient deficiencies essential for recovery.
- Heavy Metal Toxicity: Detects harmful toxins like mercury or arsenic that can contribute to chronic disease.
Bioscan Bioresonance
The Bioscan is an alternative diagnostic method that measures the body’s radiating wave frequencies (bioresonance). This non-invasive test provides insights into your vitamin and nutrient levels, organ health, and overall well-being.
At our clinic, we use Bioscan as part of a comprehensive diagnostic process. While this tool is not yet recognized in conventional medicine, we combine it with other proven methods like Vitacell, urine analysis, and blood tests to ensure accurate and thorough results.
How We Use Bioscan
Over the years, we’ve seen excellent results by utilizing Bioscan to assess:
- Amino Acids (e.g., tryptophan, which impacts energy, mood, and sleep)
- Pesticides and Chemical Toxins in the body
- Heavy Metal Toxicity (mercury, arsenic, cadmium, etc.)
- Vaginal Infections
- Trace Elements and Minerals
- Vitamin Levels
Pregnancy Discomforts
At Mahakala Center, we focus on alleviating pregnancy discomforts and empowering women for a smoother journey. Dr. Lemm’s program combines holistic treatments like acupuncture, massage, and nutritional consultations, using diagnostic tools like extended blood and vaginal flora testing. We also offer overnight care for women with special complaints. Our approach is designed to reduce discomforts, promote a more comfortable delivery, and ensure a pleasant pregnancy experience. Pregnancy discomforts we can treat:
Tiredness & Morning Sickness
Tiredness during pregnancy can stem from various causes, including insufficient vitamins, anemia, insomnia, and anxiety. Blood tests, along with your medical history and lifestyle, help us provide tailored advice. Acupuncture and nutritional counseling are effective treatments to restore energy and alleviate tiredness.
Morning sickness, often a sign of a healthy pregnancy, can be managed with acupuncture, nutritional therapy, and laser therapy. Acupuncture helps calm the stomach and redirect stomach acid, while gut microbiome testing is crucial as imbalances often contribute to nausea and discomfort.
Water Retention (Edema)
A common pregnancy discomfort, often worsened by hormonal changes that make blood vessels more permeable. High insulin levels or excessive carbohydrate intake can contribute, sometimes indicating insulin resistance or gestational diabetes. Edema, especially in the legs and hands (carpal tunnel syndrome), can be painful. At Mahakala, we treat it with nutritional therapy and acupuncture.
Back Pain
Common in pregnancy, especially in winter due to vitamin D deficiency, back pain can also result from weight gain or prolonged sitting. At Mahakala, we test vitamin D levels to determine the right supplementation. Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment, offering relief without affecting the mother or baby’s health.
Pregnancy Depression
At Mahakala, we specialize in identifying physical imbalances, such as deficiencies in iron, B12, and D3, which can contribute to depression. Inflammation in the body is another common cause, and we treat it with nutritional therapies, massages, and relaxation techniques to support emotional well-being during pregnancy.
Haemorrhoids
Common in pregnancy, often due to an imbalanced microbiome. At Mahakala, we first assess gut flora and nutritional levels, as balancing these factors is usually enough for effective treatment.
Pregnancy Gestosis
A serious condition that requires early detection through blood tests, including liver and kidney enzyme analysis. At Mahakala, we manage gestosis with acupuncture, nutritional therapy, and dietary adjustments—reducing carbohydrates and increasing protein intake to help alleviate symptoms.
Diabetes During Pregnancy
A common condition caused by long-term high sugar consumption leading to insulin resistance. At Mahakala, we support treatment through dietary changes—reducing carbohydrates, increasing fiber intake, and promoting physical activity. Acupuncture and breathing exercises help relieve stress and improve circulation. Combined with our nutritional consultations, these methods help restore metabolic balance. We have successfully treated hundreds of women with gestational diabetes.
Genital Discomfort & Vaginal Health
Pain and discomfort in the genital area are common concerns. At Mahakala, we specialize in diagnosing and treating these issues by assessing vaginal microbiome and immune function. Depending on the results, treatment may include vaginal probiotics, aromatherapy, or, in some cases, antibiotics. A healthy vaginal flora is crucial during pregnancy, as it directly impacts the baby’s future immune system.

Premature Contractions
Premature contractions can often be prevented and treated by identifying the root cause. Infections and nutritional deficiencies, such as low vitamin D and magnesium, are common triggers. At Mahakala Center, we offer personalized treatments, including infection treatment and targeted supplements, to reduce the risk of early labor. Prevention through regular check-ups and proper nutrition is key. Trust Dr. Lemm’s expertise, backed by her PhD research on premature labor related to infections.
Nutrition in Pregnancy
At Mahakala Center, we specialize in nutrition during pregnancy, offering personalized counseling based on your individual needs. Good nutrition is essential for both you and your baby, and small changes can make a big impact. We offer two types of nutritional counseling:
- Scientific and Medical Counseling: Focuses on preventing and managing complications like gestational diabetes, back pain, and water retention.
- Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): Advises on gentle foods like prepared vegetables, suitable for issues like nausea, fatigue, and digestive problems.
The following nutrient needs increase during pregnancy:
Folic acid
Getting at least 600 micrograms per day during pregnancy reduces the risk for neural tube defects.
iron
You need nearly twice as much iron during pregnancy, or 27 milligrams daily. The mineral is used to make more blood that carries oxygen to your baby.
calcium
Aim for 1,000 milligrams daily. Calcium is key to help your baby build strong bones, teeth, muscles and nerves.
vitamin d
It helps calcium do its job and keeps your immune system strong. You should get 600 IU daily.
DHA
An omega-3 fatty acid, DHA plays a role in your baby’s brain and eye development. You need 200 to 300 milligrams per day.
Hypnobirthing
At our Midwife Clinic in Berlin, we offer HypnoBirthing courses to empower women for a natural birth. This philosophy and technique help you trust your body, release fears, and embrace a positive birth experience. The course, designed for pregnant women and their birth companions within 5 weeks of their due date, teaches self-hypnosis, breathing techniques, and relaxation methods to enhance comfort and promote feel-good hormones during birth.
The compact two-day workshop costs 300 Euros, with a 100 Euro deposit required. You’ll receive a handout, the HypnoBirthing® book, and access to the Rainbow Relaxation download. Spaces are limited to 5 couples, so reserve early.
